Akhil Akkineni made a brief cameo in the popular 2014 family drama, Manam, which starred three generations of Akkineni actors. The audience loved his performance in the film, which went on to receive critical acclaim and several awards, including Best Film at the Filmfare Awards. Following this, Akhil appeared in a number of commercials for well-known brands such as Titan, Mountain Dew, and Karbonn.

In 2015, Akhil made his acting debut in V. V. Vinayak’s Akhil, co-starring Nithin and debutante Sayesha Saigal. In preparation for his role, he underwent intensive training with his personal trainer Kicha and attended workshops in Thailand for two months. Despite high expectations, the film received mixed reviews and failed to perform well at the box office, causing Akhil to take a two-year break.
