Anil Kapoor gained prominence in the Bollywood industry with his role as a Tapori (a rowdy) in the film Mashaal. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor Performance for his portrayal in the action film Tezaab in 1988. His first sci-fi film Mr. India, which starred the famous actress Sridevi, was released in 1987 and helped establish Kapoor as a star in the industry. Kapoor also produced the films Badhaai Ho Badhaai and Gandhi, My Father in 2002.
In addition, he appeared in the British film Slumdog Millionaire alongside the late Irrfan Khan, which won four Golden Globe Awards, and had a role in the American television series 24.
